Young Women Social Entrepreneurs (YWSE) is a global non-profit membership organization with chapters in established chapters in the US and Kenya and new chapters in Afghanistan, Ghana, and South Africa. We serve women with a socially conscious agenda who are founders and leaders within businesses, non-profits, and government organizations. Our mission is to propel women to lead social innovation globally by providing training and development, access to resources, and networking opportunities. YWSE was founded in 1999 and has served over seven thousand women over the past 14 years.

YWSE seeks an ambitious, experienced, and dynamic Executive Director to take the organization to a new level of success by establishing YWSE as the premier organization uniquely focused on women social entrepreneurs in their 20s and 30s. The Executive Director will play an important role in communicating the vision of the organization alongside the Board of Directors, while ensuring success in the areas of resource generation, volunteer management, programming, and marketing to attract paid members. She will develop goals and strategies that will lead to YWSE’s continued growth in programs, both domestically and internationally. This includes leading the organization’s development efforts, as well as identifying and capitalizing on major funding opportunities.
The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors.
Primary responsibilities:
- Set the strategic direction for the organization in alignment with YWSE’s core mission and in partnership with the Board of Directors and chapter leaders
- Manage all operations including fundraising, membership marketing, global program development and delivery, local chapter leader support, volunteer management, finance and administration
- Manage the effectiveness and integrity of all resource development activities including cultivating donors, establishing new partnerships, and maintaining positive relationships with existing supporters
Other responsibilities include:
- Thoroughly understand YWSE, its mission, policies, culture, values, history, key stakeholders, programs and finances
- Work with the Board and chapter leaders to establish and execute long-range strategic and annual operating priorities Oversee and administer effective operations of all YWSE programs including developing a cohesive, high-performing team of volunteers
- Serve as a polished and credible external representative of the organization when necessary, particularly in fundraising, communications, and awareness activities
- Participate and engage the Board in fundraising, including working with individuals, corporate executives, foundation contacts, and other donors and prospects, particularly at the six- and seven-figure levels
- Develop a funding and growth plan that engages actively interested donors and prospects that will deliver substantial sustained growth for YWSE
- Establish and lead a membership campaign to engage existing and new YWSEs as a source of long-term, sustainable revenue
- Design inspiring programs and services for members--including webinar trainings, local events, newsletter/blog content, community circles, and on-line membership directory--and partner with chapter leaders and volunteers to ensure these programs and services are delivered effectively and successfully
- Leverage and oversee YWSE’s website as a powerful tool for fundraising, membership sales, and program delivery
- Support chapter leaders to deliver inspiring, successful local events
- Manage YWSE’s finances including quarterly payments to chapters of their percentage of membership fees
Respond to requests to start new chapters
Establish trust and maintain strong relationships with board members, volunteers, donors, partners, and other supporters of YWSE
Minimum qualifications:
- Passion for YWSE’s mission
- At least seven years of experience, including successful fundraising and marketing
- B.S. or B.A degree
- Demonstrated experience leading an organization and/or division
Other key skills:
- A strategist who is adept at planning, organizing and following through
- An independent worker and self-starter
- Experience starting an organization(s)
- Experience engaging and working with volunteers
- A facilitator, collaborator, coordinator and motivator with leadership abilities
- A team player who can also roll up one's sleeves and make things happen as an individual
Compensation:
This is a contract role with incentive-based compensation. In addition to an hourly rate, bonuses are given when goals are met or exceeded. Hourly rate and bonuses will be negotiated.
