Standard Chartered Head of Sustainability Job in Kenya

Job Description

This is role reports into the Sub Regional Head of Corporate Affairs East Africa. The following describe the job purpose;
  • To deliver the Bank’s sustainability agenda and initiatives for Kenya.
  • To work with Group, HR and business functions to align the sustainability agenda with business goals.
  • To monitor the Bank’s reputation and standing among stakeholders and in conjunction with the reputation risk management functions .
  • To engage with external and internal audiences to promote the Bank’s sustainability agenda and ensure its achievements are well understood
  • To act as a strategic partner to the function’s key stakeholders and support the Bank’s business agenda through effective communications.
  • To organize and deliver a successful Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon, the largest annual sporting event in the Kenya.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Aligning the Bank’s sustainability agenda and initiatives with Kenya Executive Committee and business Management Committees through the establishment of cross bank committees which are responsible for implementing the sustainability agenda.
  • Providing sustainability coordinators and country committees with the right tools and advice to be able to deliver the sustainability agenda of Standard Chartered Bank.
  • Ensuring country and business teams comply with the sustainability policies of Standard Chartered Bank.
  • Remaining current about best practices – liaising with key stakeholders to ensure that the sustainability issues remain relevant to the communities in which we operate.
  • Work with other Corporate Affairs functions and other parts of the Bank to ensure the sustainability agenda and achievements are well understood internally and externally.
  • Support the Head of Corporate Affairs in his/her role as risk control owner for reputational risk, in effective identification and monitoring of reputational risk.
  • As a member of the Bank’s Environment Committee, develop and implement bankwide environment strategy relevant to local market, including planning/execution of environmental initiatives.
  • Support Groupwide community investment initiatives through governance, planning, and execution of local implementations and working with businesses/functions to do the same, eg. Seeing is Believing, Living with HIV, Goal , Financial Education, Employee volunteering.
  • Assess Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon event requirements and provide strategic and creative solutions to ensure the Nairobi marathon is a success.
  • Design and implement an effective project plan and present options to management for consideration/agreement.
  • Aggressively market the event to potential sponsors and partners.
  • Proactively build and maintain relationships with the internal and external organising teams, external suppliers/service providers, journalists and key organisations/personalities in the sporting fraternity.
  • Planning and co-ordinating all pre and post-event activities (e.g. runner recruitment drives, press conferences, committee meetings and rehearsals).
  • Preparing budgets, tracking spend to ensure event is delivered within budget.
  • Assist in the development of press releases and other communication material/publications related to the event.
  • Drive volunteers recruitment and management with a bias especially for employee engagement and participation in the event.
  • Act as a reference point for internal and external requests and referrals related to the marathon.

Qualifications & Skills

The role demands a high degree of strategic marketing and project management skills:
  • More than 10 years relevant experience in project management; CSR or Marketing.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, ability to prioritise and manage multitude of issues simultaneously.
  • Able to work in a fast paced and diverse environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills.
  • Proven experience of stakeholder management.
  • Flexible, approachable and personable character.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Persuasive negotiator, with solid negotiation skills, confident developing and putting forward the company’s position in external meetings and with senior management.
  • Solid experience in managing large events and projects.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Ability to effectively learn lessons and improve effectively.
  • Experience in selling to corporate bodies and organising fundraising activities.
